Year 11 Careers (Non-ATAR) Pathway — Information Session for Year 10 Students
Australian International Academy — Strathfield. Welcome, Assalamu Alaikum Wr. Wb.
This session is specifically for students who have been offered placement in the Careers Pathway for Years 11 and 12 (2027–2028).
Today we will cover: what the Careers Pathway is; your subjects for Year 11 and 12; work experience and TAFE opportunities; how you can move to the University Pathway if your results improve.
Slide 2
What is the Careers (Non-ATAR) Pathway? A supportive pathway to your HSC
Complete your Higher School Certificate (HSC).
Receive your HSC credential (without an ATAR).
Focus on transitioning into work, TAFE or vocational training.
Gain practical skills through VET courses and work experience.
Slide 3
Why have a Careers Pathway?
This pathway is for students who may not wish to go to university; would benefit from a more practical, skills-focused approach; may find the ATAR pathway too demanding; want to explore work, TAFE or vocational options.
Our goal: to see every student leave Australian International Academy with a credential that sets them up for success — whether that be employment, further training or TAFE.

Work experience and TAFE opportunities
Because you are not sitting external HSC exams, you have more flexibility to undertake work experience during school hours, enrol in TAFE courses alongside your HSC studies, and gain practical, real-world skills while still at school.
We will support you in finding work experience placements and exploring TAFE options that match your interests.
Slide 8
Moving to the University (ATAR) Pathway
You may be able to change pathways. If you wish to be considered for the University (ATAR) Pathway, you may apply based on a review of your Year 10 yearly results. No movement in Year 11 or 12.
To be considered, you will need to demonstrate substantial improvement in your results, satisfactory results across all courses, and consistent effort and application.
We believe in rewarding effort and improvement.
Slide 9
What if I want to go to university later?
The Careers Pathway does not close the door to university. There are many pathways in, including TAFE-to-university pathways, mature age entry, bridging courses, and vocational qualifications that lead to university.
Completing the Careers Pathway does not mean you can never go to university. It simply means you take a different route.

Year 11 — 12 units; satisfactorily complete all Year 11 courses.
Year 12 — 10 units; satisfactorily complete all Year 12 courses.
